Escalator Skiing (1 clip)

Hey Dude, try this stunt on the Kiev Metro. If you survive the trip down, trust that you’d rather be in a Turkish jail than the one you’ll find in Ukraine.

Ukraine promotional film (1 clip)

posted 02-27-07

Here’s a short film produced by the Ukrainian goverment to show a few things about their country. It’s very nicely done, so much so that I found myself wishing it were longer. It’s a beautiful, vibrant country with strong, talented, hard working people. The film gives ample hints of these and other attributes. Enjoy !!

On 01-30-07 I posted a Monty Python clip with the suggestion that it’s best to “know your chocolatier”. Here, before you go dashing off to Russia or Ukraine to meet the woman of your dreams, I suggest you “know your translator”. Enjoy!

We all know that Valentines Day is coming. And the primary gift choices are flowers and candy, specifically chocolate candy.  But as you’ll see in the followeing clip, it’s best to know your chocolatier.

The Kiev Metro. (1 clip)

On December 2, 2006, I wrote a post called “Fun and Fear on the Kiev Metro”. Here’s a great video I found on YouTube that takes you down that infamous escalator. (The music and sounds you hear are not dubbed - it’s the real thing). As you get to the bottom of the ride, notice the people gathering for the ride up and imagine yourself in that crowd loaded with 2 large suitcases and an airline carryon bag. Exciting, huh?

  New Year’s In Russia - 2007. (3 clips)

posted 01-18-07

Happy New Year 2007 from a children’s English school in Moscow.

The thing to note here, besides the fact that the kids are cute, is that English, being an international language, is widely taught in Russia. All children receive several years of rudimentary English instruction. However, they have no opportunity to practice reading or speaking English in everyday life. Hence by the time they are in their late teens, most if not all, English skills have been lost.

Just people having fun - - except for the language, this could have been that party I heard going on down the street in my neighborhood here in San Rafael, California. Not sure about the sparklers though.
