As you’ve heard about lately, there is currently a dispute between Belarus and Russia over transport of Russian oil through Belarus to Western European countries. It’s a complicated issue between 2 countries with an even more complicated relationship. To me it seems the issue has some potential to create political unrest. So I wondered if the U.S. Department of State has anything to say about it for American travelers. I checked, and at this time neither country is on the travel warning list.
This is a very easy thing to check out and I suggest you do it before going to ANY foreign country. You can go to the State Department web site at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html for a list of countries for which travel warnings are currently in effect. If the country you’re traveling to is not on the warning list, great. But you should also check the “Consular Information Sheets” (link is on the warnings page)for your country of interest for other travel related information posted by the State Department.
Know before you go. Until next time, may your travels be safe and happy.
Gary.
