The first myth I want to dispel with is the “Russian mail order bride myth”. In October 2006, there were over 40000 Internet searches for “mail order bride” of which more than 6800 were for “Russian mail order bride”. If you think you’re going to be Dustin Hoffman in “Little Big Man” and have Olga magically appear to serve you, - - well forget it. Russian women are beautiful, exotic, sexy, feminine, etc., etc., etc.. But one thing they are not is desperate.
These are intelligent, and for the most part, highly educated, and often very talented women. It’s definitely very possible to meet and marry one of these beautiful women. But don’t expect her to come scampering to your doorstep. You will have to travel to Russia, meet her, and prove to her that you are worth her leaving Russia to marry and live with you.
So if you’re looking for a “mail order bride”, don’t look in Russia. If you pursue a Russian woman with that mentality, you are doomed to failure.
Myth “busted”? I hope so.
